Kevin’s 2019 Bio

I’d like to share a little about myself and my journey to the healing arts. My name is Kevin Wallace Morgan. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was raised in a family that was steeped in traditional Western medicine. My father was a dentist and I had two uncles who were medical physicians. While attending UCLA, I decided I wanted to study veterinary medicine because of my love for all animals. I was intending to study at UC Davis after graduation and was working weekends at a very busy veterinary hospital in West Los Angeles where I suffered an incredibly painful injury to my back. Naturally, I sought out what was familiar and began medical treatment. After 3 or 4 months of being prescribed pain killers and muscle relaxers, etc., the neurologist I was seeing recommended I consult with a neurosurgeon to see If I was a candidate for spinal fusion. This was getting serious.

A friend of mine, Paul Green, who was attending Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, heard my story and bluntly said “Why don’t you try chiropractic care? You have nothing to lose.” I knew nothing about chiropractic care, I didn’t want surgery and had grown weary of the constant burning pain in my back. I told him he was right and called the outpatient clinic where my friend was completing his internship in Glendale, CA and scheduled a new patient appointment.

After a thorough exam and X-rays of my back, I had a consultation with the head clinician. He explained what the problem was and what the recommended treatment plan was. It felt right, made sense to me and I consented to treatment. I was then given my first adjustment—it was the first relief I’d had in 4 months! I was astonished to put it mildly. The incredible relief and the hope that I could be pain free brought tears to my eyes. Because this clinic was a bit of a commute for me living in Santa Monica, I was referred to a Chiropractic Physician in my area—Dr. Roger Akers. Dr. Akers concurred with the treatment plan recommendation and the journey began. I was touched by the love and care he showed for me and his patients. I remember him stating that “we are going to restore the integrity of your spine and nervous system so that you are even better than before your injury.”

I was excited by his confidence, certainty and optimism. He was like no other “doctor” I’d ever met. During my time under Dr. Akers care, I tried to pick his brain about this type of natural health care—about how it worked, how the body has an “innate intelligence” that “knows” how to heal itself. He loaned me several books to read. He also emphasized how proper nutrition and a positive mental attitude were integral in helping the body to heal itself. It all made sense to me and I embraced it wholeheartedly.

As my body was healing and the pain was subsiding and I was getting back to the activities that I had had to give up after the injury, I knew I’d have to rethink my previous plan and goals. I decided to become a Chiropractic Physician and have never ever regretted it. I earned my B.S. in Human Biology and received my doctorate from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1984. I was also nominated to the Dean’s List for academic excellence.

I have been in continuous private practice in Salt Lake City since 1985. I was the treating chiropractor for Ballet West for 22 years as well as for the University of Utah Ballet and Modern Dance departments. I’ve also been a volunteer chiropractor for the Utah Medical Assistance Plan since 1991.

My post-doctorate education has consisted of over 4,500 hours of study in Applied Kinesiology (diplomate eligible), Advanced Muscle Integration Technique (AMIT) Certified Practitioner with Dr. Craig Buhler, 2016, Certified Brimhall Practitioner , Dr. John Brimhall 2001, Certified in Wholistic Methylation with Dr. J Dunn 2018, Trained by Dr. Micheal Lebowitz “Protocols For Treating the Complex Patient,” 2009 -2018, Trained by Dr. Scott Walker in Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) since 1991 (certified practitioner eligible.) I’ve also studied advanced use of cold laser with Dr. George Gonzales, founder of Quantum Neurology (QN), since 2014 and will be able to sit for my diplomat exam in the next few months. Last but not least, I’ve studied with Dr. David Lee in the use of Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Therapy (PEMT) since 2008.

I believe that it is imperative to continue to learn to be able to provide the best care in the most expedient manner to all of my patients. One of my mentors was fond of continually reminding us that—

“The more you know, the more you’ll succeed. The more you succeed, the more you’ll need to learn. The more you learn, the more you’ll know. The more you know, the more you’ll succeed. Etc. FOREVER!”
